While attending the DEMO conference in Palm Desert, CA last week, I listened to a panel of industry experts talking about running capital efficient businesses. Why does it take a crisis for really smart business people to start a dialogue on capital efficiency? At first I was intrigued by the dialogue. Then as I listened to the ideas presented by the panel, it struck me that if a business is not ALWAYS thinking in terms of Capital Efficiency the net result will be Capital Ineffiency. Which is a fancy way of your wasting money. I have always been amused by buzzwords. Last year it was Transparency. The year before that it was Web 2.0. This year it seams that it will be Capital Efficiency.
Marketing is a facsinating science. Today it is a multi-disciplenary hodge-podge of philosophy, psychology, economics, and often just plain dumb luck.
Magazine publishers used to find creative ways to entice readers. High impact design, lavish color spreads, contrasting opinions, controversial subject matter, and the list goes on.
There has been a lot of talk lately about the green economy. Maybe that is stating the very obvious. I am fascinated with the dialogue.
Just finished reading yet another Seth Godin masterpiece. Meatball Sundaes is one more addition to the lexicon of brilliant "new economy" books offered up by the guy who clearly gets it. I highly recommend this book to any and all of you that may be struggling to find a path to success in the changing marketplace.
